Day 01 Delhi
You will board your train,
Palace on Wheels at the
Safdarjung Railway Station
and leave for Jaipur. You
will have dinner and spend
the night on board.
Day 02 Delhi # Jaipur
After breakfast on board the
train, you will have the
opportunity to explore the
‘Pink City’ of Jaipur. First
you will visit the Hawa
Mahal. Hawa Mahal or the
Palace of Winds is a popular
landmark in Jaipur. Built in
1799 by Maharaja Sawai
Pratap Singh. Made of pink
sand stone, the façade is
almost pyramid shaped and
adorned with latticework.
Next you will see the Amber
Fort. Bordering the Maota
Lake, this beautiful citadel
merges both Hindu and Mughal
style of architecture. The
greatest way to explore the
fort is to ride up to it on
an elephant!
Afterwards, you will have
chance to see the Govt
Emporium that houses
traditional arts and crafts
and perhaps pick up some
souvenirs of your trip.
After lunch, you will visit
the City Palace. The City
Palace is in fact a palace
complex built by Maharaja
Sawai Jai Singh. Many of the
rooms have been turned into
museums and galleries
allowing visitors to catch a
glimpse of Rathasthan’s
regal past.
After lunch in the city, you
will then get to explore the
Jantar Mantar, an
astronomical observatory
dating back to around 1730.
You will then return to the
train, have dinner and spend
the night on board.
Day 03 Jaipur #
Sawaimadhopur # Chittorgarh
This morning the Palace on
Wheels arrives in Sawai
Madhopur. After breakfast,
you will visit the
Ranthambore National Park.
One of the largest national
parks in the country, it is
most famous for its tigers.
The dry deciduous forests
make tiger spotting easy. It
also houses other big cats,
as well wild boar, hyena and
many other animals.
Ranthambore is also home to
one of the largest banyan
trees in India.
You will then return to the
train, leaving for
Chittorgarh and have lunch
on board.
On arrival, you will visit
the Chittorgarh Fort. Built
in the 7th century, this
massive fort complex
occupies almost 700 acres of
land and is the largest fort
in Rajasthan. Its history
includes sagas of valor in
battle, chivalry and
sacrifice.
You will then return to the
train, where you will have
dinner and spend the night
on board.
Day 04 Chittorgarh # Udaipur
After breakfast on board the
train, you will visit the
Lake Palace at Udaipur.
Built in the 1740’s, the
Lake Palace, now a luxury
hotel, is located on a rock
in Lake Pichola. Lined with
courtyards, fountains and
pillars, this beautiful
structure is a truly a
marvel.
Next you will visit the Jag
Mandir Palace. Situated on
the southern edge of Lake
Pichola. Completed in the
1600’s, it was used a summer
resort by the royal family.
After lunch, you will visit
the City Palace. This
flamboyant palace complex
offers panoramic views of
the city and its
surroundings.
A visit to Udaipur would not
be complete without seeing
the Crystal Gallery at the
Fateh Prakash Palace. The
precious crystal items
inside the palace include
fountains, tables and even
beds. Maharaja Sajjan Singh
ordered these fantastic
artifacts but did not live
to see the crystal gallery
in its splendor because of
his untimely demise.
You will then return to the
train, heading to Jaisalmer.
You will have dinner and
spend the night on board.
Day 05 Udaipur # Jaisalmer
This morning, the train
arrives in Jaisalmer. This
town lies in the heart of
the Thar Desert and is a
place filled with color and
tradition. Founded in 1156
A.D Jaisalmer was once a
major trade centre on the
trading route between India
and the west. Today,
thousands of tourists come
here annually to experience
some of its magical charm.
After breakfast, you will
visit the various ‘havelies’
in the area. Jaisalmer is
dotted with havelies or
private mansions with
intricately latticed and
conspicuous facades.
Rajasthan is famous for this
type of architecture and
Jaisalmer has some of the
finest examples.
You will then spend some
time browsing the Rajasthan
Govt Emporium enjoying the
local arts and crafts and
perhaps picking up souvenirs
of your trip.
After lunch on board the
train, you will head for an
exciting camel ride on the
sand dunes. You will get a
glimpse of the sheer and
stark beauty of the desert
and this is guaranteed to be
an unforgettable experience!
You will then have dinner
and have the opportunity to
watch some cultural programs
at your hotel.
Afterwards, you will return
to the train, heading for
Jodhpur. You will have
dinner and spend the night
on board.
Day 06 Jaisalmer # Jodhpur
After breakfast on board,
you will visit the
Mehrangarh Fort. This
spectacular fort made from
red sandstone, stands on a
perpendicular cliff above
the skyline of Jodhpur. The
foundations of this fort
were laid in 1459. Today it
houses a museum with a fine
collection of arms,
costumes, paintings and even
a collection of palanquins.
Next you will visit the
Jaswant Thada, a marble
cenotaph built to
commemorate Maharaja Jaswant
Singh II. The intricately
carved façade, domes and
pillars make this a site to
behold.
You will also visit the
other royal cenotaphs in the
region. Each of these, built
with great pride and
attention to detail, is a
magnificent monument and
gives an understanding of
the reverence accorded to
the royal families in
Rajasthan.
You will have lunch at the
Royal Palace Hotel. You will
then return to the Palace on
Wheels, where you will have
dinner and spend the night.
Day 07 Jodhpur # Bharatpur
After breakfast on board,
you will visit the Keoladeo
Ghana National Park,
formerly known as the
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary.
This sanctuary is unique as
it was actually man-made.
The Maharaja of Bharatpur
created an artificial lake
and dam in the area to store
the water that was brought
in by the annual floods.
This created a habitat for
the flora and fauna of the
region. The highlight of the
area is the thousands of
migratory birds that come
from as far away as Siberia,
to spend the winters.
You will have dinner and
spend the night on the
Palace on Wheels.
Day 08 Bharatpur # Agra
After breakfast on board,
you will visit Fatehpur
Sikri. Built by the emperor
Akbar about 35 kms from
Agra, Fatehpur Sikri is home
to many historical
buildings. Akbar wanted to
make Fatehpur Sikri his
headquarters, however, he
had to abandon it due to
shortage of water. Today,
Fatehpur Sikri is a UNESCO
World heritage site.
After lunch, you will visit
the Red Fort. The Red Fort,
also called the Agra Fort,
was commissioned in 1565 by
Akbar. Later Shah Jahan used
it as a palace. The
beautiful yet forbidding
structure is a beautiful
example of North Indian
Mughal architecture.
Next you will visit the Taj
Mahal. Considered to be one
of the Seven Wonders of the
World, this gem of a
monument defies description.
The Taj Mahal is actually a
mausoleum, commissioned by
Enperor Shah Jahan in loving
memory of his wife Mumtaz
Mahal. Construction of this
marble wonder began in 1632
and was completed around
1653. Thousands of labourers
were employed to construct
the monument, that is
replete with decorate
inlays, carvings and
calligraphy. To this very
day, the Taj is considered
an architectural marvel.
You will return to the
train, have dinner and spend
the night on board.
Day 09 Agra # Delhi.
This morning you will arrive
in Delhi after a memorable
journey.
